What Walkers Say
Real experiences from people who've explored our routes
Wasn't sure I could manage a full walk at my age, but these routes are perfectly paced. The benches along the river made all the difference. I'm planning to do the Medieval Mile next week.
Margaret, 72
My husband's knees aren't great, so we appreciated the flat riverside walk. The information signs were excellent — we learned things we didn't know about our own town. Really well done.
Patricia & Michael, 68
I've lived here forty years and didn't realize half the history along these paths. The guide was clear, distances are honest, and it didn't feel rushed. That's what I call proper planning.
James, 75

Common Questions
Everything you need to know before you walk
What's the easiest walk for first-timers?
The River Nore Bank Walk is our most popular starter route. It's 2.5 km, completely flat, and has benches every 200-300 metres. Most people take about 45 minutes without rushing.
Are the paths accessible with a walking stick or mobility aid?
Yes. All four routes accommodate walking sticks and walking frames. The riverside walk is the most accessible. Some sections of the Medieval Mile have cobblestones which require care, but alternatives exist.
How long do the walks take?
River Nore: 45 minutes to 1 hour. Medieval Mile: 50 minutes to 1.5 hours. Walled Town Perimeter: 1 hour to 1.5 hours. All include rest stops. There's no rush.
Where can we rest or get refreshments?
We've mapped cafés, benches, and rest areas along every route. The Medieval Mile has the most options. Our detailed guide includes opening hours and whether places are wheelchair accessible.
What's the best time to walk?
Early morning (8-10 am) and mid-afternoon (2-4 pm) are quietest. Spring and early autumn offer perfect weather. Summer can be busy with tourists, so plan accordingly.
Do we need to book ahead?
Group walks can be arranged. Individual walkers can go anytime — our routes are self-guided with clear markers. Contact us to arrange a guided experience tailored to your group's pace.
